This article focuses on how to configure Voice prioritization on VoIP phones. It can be done either manually or automatically with a protocol called LLDP-MED. Many VoIP phones support LLDP-MED.
LLDP-MED is a mechanism used by switches to broadcast network settings, such as voice prioritization settings, to neighboring devices. Voice prioritization settings include:
- VLAN ID;
- 802.1p Class of Service;
These settings can be configured on the Plasma Cloud console, as explained in this article.
When you plug a LLDP-MED compatible VoIP phone into a Plasma Cloud Switch, it will be able to receive and automatically adopt the voice prioritization settings.
All Plasma Cloud Switches support LLDP-MED, ensuring a plug-and-play experience when connecting your VoIP phone to a Plasma Cloud switch.
LLDP-MED simply announces network settings to its neighbors. It does not perform actual configuration steps. Please check with your VoIP phone vendor if your device supports LLDP-MED auto-configuration.
In case your VoIP phone does not support LLDP-MED, you need to configure prioritization settings (VLAN ID, 802.1p Class of Service, DSCP) manually on the phone. Please consult the documentation provided by your vendor.
