The link state indicates the current status of an SFP transceiver and its connection to the Switch.
If an issue occurs with the SFP transceiver, the detected state is shown in the Ports table. Depending on the severity of the issue, a warning or alarm icon is displayed in the Status column.
Link state warning
An orange transceiver icon indicates that the SFP transceiver is in a transitional or initialization state. The link may not be operational yet, but the condition does not necessarily indicate a permanent failure.
| Link state | Description |
|---|---|
| wait | The SFP transceiver is waiting for the next initialization step or for the conditions required to proceed. |
| init | The SFP transceiver is being initialized. The Switch is establishing communication with the transceiver and preparing it for operation. |
| init phy | The physical interface (PHY) is being initialized. The Switch is configuring the physical link between the transceiver and the Switch. |
| init tx fault | A transmit fault was detected during initialization. The Switch is handling the fault and attempting to initialize the transceiver. |
| reinit | The SFP transceiver is being reinitialized, typically because the previous initialization did not complete successfully or the transceiver needs to be restarted. |
These states can be temporary. If the SFP transceiver remains in one of these states for an unusually long time, check the transceiver, fiber connection, and Switch configuration.
Link state alarm
A red transceiver icon indicates a more serious condition that prevents the SFP transceiver from operating normally.
| Link state | Description |
|---|---|
| fail | Initialization or operation of the SFP transceiver failed. The transceiver cannot be brought into a functional link state. |
| Tx disabled | Transmission is disabled on the SFP transceiver. The transceiver cannot transmit data while this state is active. |
If an SFP transceiver remains in an alarm state, check the SFP transceiver and its configuration. Depending on the issue, replacing the transceiver or checking the connected fiber or Switch configuration may be necessary.
