If a PoE fault is detected on an Ethernet port, a red PoE warning icon is displayed in the Ports tab Status column on the Switch Details Media Converter Details page.
The icon indicates that the port is unable to provide PoE power because one of the following faults has occurred.
PoE budget exceeded
This fault occurs when the device's total PoE power budget has been exhausted. If other ports are already consuming most or all of the available PoE power, there may not be enough remaining power to supply the device connected to the port displaying the warning.
To resolve this issue, you may reduce the total PoE power consumption on the device by disconnecting other PoE-powered devices, lowering their power usage if possible, or upgrade to a device with a higher PoE budget.
Over-current
This fault indicates that the connected powered device is drawing more current than the port can safely provide. To protect the hardware, PoE output on the affected port is automatically disabled.
Verify that the PoE standard of the connected device is compatible with the Switch and inspect the Ethernet cable for damage. After the issue has been resolved, the warning icon will disappear and the port restores PoE operation.
Unknown error
An unexpected PoE fault has been detected, but its exact cause could not be determined.
Inspect the Ethernet cable. The maximum cable length for PoE is 100 meters (328 feet). Exceeding this distance can lead to power loss. If you're experiencing faults, ensure your cable is within this limit and check for quality and compatibility.
Verify that the device is PoE-compatible, and check whether the fault remains after connecting a different powered device. If the issue continues, contact technical support.
