A maintenance window is a predesignated period of time during which unattended maintenance is performed. However, should you wish to run a firmware upgrade immediately, the Plasma Cloud console allows you to do so at any given time.
This assumes that you have:
- A maintenance window already configured (learn how to do it in this article); and
- The firmware upgrade function enabled in your network settings (learn more about firmware upgrades in this article).
Firmware Upgrade
Whenever a firmware upgrade is available, an icon with two semicircular arrows will appear next to the Plasma Cloud flame status icon in the devices table. By hovering over it, the following message:
Firmware upgrade scheduled
If you wish you can upgrade now
will pop up.
Should you wish to upgrade immediately, simply click on the firmware upgrade button. However, please note the device will automatically reboot once the new firmware has been successfully installed.
Once the upgrade process starts, the Plasma Cloud flame status icon will disappear and an animated upgrade icon will be noticeable. By hovering over it, the message:
Firmware upgrade in progress...
will pop up, to clearly indicate that the device is currently undergoing a firmware upgrade.
Upon successful completion, the Plasma Cloud flame status icon will reappear once again in the devices table.
Potential Issues
In case any issue arises during this process, a gray icon with two semicircular arrows will appear next to the Plasma Cloud flame status icon in the device table. Upon hovering over it, you will see the following message:
Firmware upgrade not completed
Device still running normally
Reattempting upgrade soon
As mentioned in the message, the device did not manage to complete the upgrade and will attempt to upgrade again as soon as possible, assuming the automatic firmware upgrade option is enabled in your network settings. The device will continue to operate normally with your current firmware.
In case the device keeps having issues during the upgrade process, the following error message will appear instead:
Firmware upgrade not completed
Device still running normally
