What is mesh recovery mode?

Mesh recovery is an automatic recovery method to ensure all devices continue to connect to the cloud despite unforeseen network connectivity issues. Whenever an Access Point has no wired uplink connection, it falls back to mesh recovery mode in order to go online and connect to the cloud. This could be the case for newly added Access Points that are not wired to the network, sudden cable or port failures of existing wired connections as well as other network failures. When an Access Point enters mesh recovery mode, the following icon is shown in its Mesh status column, as also indicated in this article.

What to do if mesh recovery mode is active on a device?

This depends on your particular setup. Does the device in question have a wired uplink connection?

Device with no wired uplink

If a device is intended to be used as mesh Access Point, and has recently been added to a network, mesh recovery mode will be activated automatically to establish the initial connection. Mesh recovery mode can then be disabled by making sure wireless mesh is correctly configured on your Access Point. If you wish to keep wireless mesh permanently active on the newly added device, we recommend to activate your WiFi AI in the network and wait until the next scheduled maintenance window takes place. Once WiFi AI has taken into account the newly added device and optimized its mesh settings, it will also deactivate mesh recovery mode. If WiFi AI is not active, wireless mesh settings need to be manually configured and, after doing so, the recovery mode will be automatically disabled.

Device with wired uplink

If mesh recovery mode is active on a device which is supposed to use its wired uplink, this indicates the Access Point has lost its wired uplink connectivity. This may happen for a number of reasons, such as cable issues, networking malfunctions, etc. To resolve this problem, please check your cables and configurations to ensure your network can operate as expected. Once uplink connectivity is restored, mesh recovery mode will be automatically disabled.
