The firmware is the software that provides instructions on how a device has to operate, thus making it run. The expression "re-flashing a device" refers to the action of re-installing a specific firmware on your Switch - in this specific case, it refers to the installation of the Plasma Cloud firmware.
To re-flash, ensure that you have a computer with a physical Ethernet port and a network cable to connect your Switch to the Ethernet port, then follow the steps below.
( 1 ) Download the firmware image
Download the latest firmware image for your Switch.
( 2 ) Boot your Switch
Power on the Switch and wait for it to boot.
( 3 ) Obtain the Switch IP
Manual re-flash of a Switch is performed via its local web UI. In order to access the web UI, you need to know the IP of the Switch that needs to be re-flashed. If DHCP is available, the Switch will obtain an IP via DHCP and if no DHCP is available the Switch configures itself with the fixed IP 10.10.10.10.
Based on whether a DHCP service is available or not, choose one of the following:
- If DHCP is available, connect any of the Ethernet ports to your LAN. The Switch will automatically obtain an IP via DHCP.
- If DHCP is not available, configure the wired interface of your computer with the IP 10.10.10.1 and connect it to any port of the Switch using a network cable.
( 4 ) Log into the Switch web UI
Connect to the web UI on the Switch using the IP address assigned via DHCP or its fixed IP address (10.10.10.10).
To log in, use the following credentials:
- Username: admin
- Default password: pl4sm4cl0ud
Please note that if the Switch has already been added to a network, the current password should be retrieved from the network settings in the Plasma Cloud console instead.
( 5 ) Select the downloaded firmware image
Choose Firmware Upgrade in the main menu on the left and select the downloaded firmware image to upgrade to.
( 6 ) Complete the re-flashing
Select the Apply button and wait for the firmware upgrade to finish.
