Although every device on a LAN is connected to every other device, they are not necessarily aware of each other's existence. To make services easier to be found and auto-configured throughout the network, modern printers, file servers, video streaming services, etc. allow to be auto-discovered. Auto-discovery is responsible for proactively informing every device on the same network about its presence by broadcasting auto-discovery information in regular intervals.
Clients need to be able to receive broad-casted auto-discovery information to benefit from auto-discovery. The way to configure your network to allow clients to receive this information depends on the specific use case. Usually, this is done using Bridge mode.
To learn more about the functionality and requirements of Bridge mode, you can check out this article.
Auto-discovery facilitates finding and configuring services. Services with auto-discovery disabled can still be accessed but may require manual configuration.
