You have the option to block specific clients on your SSIDs and notify them about the block. This proves especially useful when you notice a client misusing your network and need to set limits to prevent further abuse. It is possible to block both existing and new clients (i.e., those who have never used your network or were connected more than 30 days ago).
Existing Clients
To block a client, you need to:
- Log into the Plasma Cloud console;
- Select the Organization and Network of interest from the top right menu;
- Navigate to Clients in the main menu on the left; and
- Identify the client of interest in the Clients table.
Next, you can either:
- Click anywhere on the client row inside the table; or
- Click on the action button (three dots) in the last column of the client row and select Block.
In both cases, you will be redirected to the client details page. Now, in the Network access section, you need to:
- Select the SSID(s) you want to block the client on. You can choose any number of SSIDs from the SSID list that appears by clicking on the field below Block client on the following SSIDs.
- Type a notification message in the text box titled Message to be shown to blocked client. If you have written notification messages for other clients in the past, they will appear as options to choose from as well.
- Click on the Save button.
Please note that if you reached this page through the 'Block' menu, the SSID(s) will be auto selected based on the SSID(s) you were visualizing in the Clients page. If, as shown in the image below, All SSIDs was selected, clicking on 'Block' will auto select all the SSIDs in the 'Block client on the following SSIDs' field.
New clients
It is possible to block clients that have either never used your network or were connected more than 30 days ago. In this case, you need to manually add the client before being able to block it. In order to do this:
- Log into the Plasma Cloud console;
- Select the Organization and Network of interest from the top right menu;
- Navigate to Clients in the main menu on the left;
- Click on the Add Policy button on top of the clients table;
- Enter the client MAC address and click on Add;
As for existing clients, you will now be redirected to the client detail page.
Please note that the new blocked client will appear in the table shown under the Policies tab. Once the client connects to your network, it will also be shown alongside other active clients in the table under the Activities tab as well.
