WPA (WiFi Protected Access) is a protocol designed to secure wireless networks by authenticating users and encrypting data transmitted over the air. WPA encryption can be configured in the SSID settings page:
- Log into the Plasma Cloud console;
- Select the organisation and network with the SSID of interest from the top right menu;
- Navigate to Settings > SSIDs > SSID name in the main menu on the left;
- Find the Authentication section and select the appropriate option from the drop-down menu
Authentication: None
With the option, the SSID network will have no password. It creates an open network to which any WiFi can connect to. This makes sense for guest networks in combination with Splash pages.
Authentication: WPA password
Set up a custom WPA password in your SSID settings to protect your network from unauthorized access.
Authentication: WPA Enterprise
WPA Enterprise is generally used to provide enhanced security for wireless networks in corporate environments. Please refer to this article for details.
Weaker encryption for legacy device compatibility
When WPA password or WPA Enterprise is selected, a toggle titled "Weaker encryption for legacy device compatibility" appears. When enabled, the WPA2 encryption standard will be enforced on this SSID for all connected clients. For details, please refer to this article What is Legacy Client Compatibility Mode?
