The Client Location tab provides a visual representation of a client's estimated position within your network. This feature helps to monitor and troubleshoot WiFi client connectivity with valuable location context. For a general overview of the Client Details page, please refer to this article.
To go to the client location tab, you need to:
- Log into the Plasma Cloud console;
- Select the Organisation and Network containing the device from top-right menu.
- In the main menu on the left, navigate to Clients.
- Click on the client of interest in the table. This will take you to the Client Details page.
- Locate the Location tab, just below the network chart.

The Location tab will only appear when the client is connected to an Access Point that is assigned to a Floor Plan.

How It Works
The client location is estimated using the known position of the Access Point on its assigned Floor Plan, along with the signal strength of the connection between the client and the Access Point. To learn more about Floor Plans, please refer to this article.
Visualizing Client Location
A colored circle around the Access Point shows the area in which the WiFi client is likely located. A blue circle means the client is currently online, or was last seen up to 30 minutes ago.
If the circle appears red, the client was last seen more than 30 minutes ago and may have moved away.
The color of the Access Point marker indicates whether the device is currently online (blue) or offline (red).
The size of the client location circle is dynamic:
-
A Stronger WiFi signal (as measured by the AP) indicates the client is close to the AP, so the location circle is smaller.
-
A weaker signal suggests the client is further away from the AP, so the location circle becomes larger to cover a wider possible area.
Access Point Details
You can learn more details about the Access Point by clicking on its device marker. This will open a popup with a quick device overview including AP model, icon, assigned Floor Plan name, and device image (if available). To view all device settings, click on the device title which will lead you directly to its Device Details page.
