How to interpret the traffic charts?

Traffic charts can be found on the top of the Access Points, Clients and Switches pages in the Plasma Cloud console. These charts provide visual traffic statistics for your selected Plasma Cloud network. Dropdown menus on top of traffic charts offer fine-grained control over the data you wish to display. Depending on the page, these include:

• Selecting a specific SSID or All SSIDs (default option) (Access Points and Clients page);
• Setting time frame to Last day (default option), Last week or Last month (Access Points, Clients and Switches page);
• Generating a Traffic or Outages chart for your selected network (Access Points and Switches page).

Interpreting the traffic chart

The traffic chart displays information regarding traffic flow and the number of connected clients in your selected network over a set time frame, as shown in the example below. The horizontal axis indicates the time frame, while the two vertical axes depict total traffic (left) and number of active clients (right). The legend below the chart clearly shows the colors representing various types of data.

Please note this chart only shows aggregated data. No matter which period (day/week/month) is selected, the graph always displays 288 data points. Each data point represents the averaged data measured over a specific time span, depending on the set time frame:

• Last day - a data point represents the averaged data over 5 mins;
• Last week - a data point represents the averaged data over 35 mins;
• Last month - a data point represents the averaged data over 150 mins.

Upon hovering over a data point, the graph displays its related value. For instance, if Last day is selected as time frame, a data point of 5MBit/s represents 5MBit/s of averaged traffic over 5 minutes. Traffic spikes occurring during this time are averaged as well, which is why the displayed peaks in the chart may be lower than the maximum throughput of your connection.
