The Management VLAN (tag: 4094) is a special VLAN that enables your Switch to connect to the Internet and communicate with our cloud services. By default, it is pre-configured on every Switch port. For more details on the Management VLAN, refer to this article. Users can remove the Management VLAN if needed for specific use cases.
Important Considerations When Modifying the Management VLAN Settings
When adjusting your VLAN settings, ensure that the Management VLAN remains configured on the uplink port. This is critical for allowing the Switch to receive DHCP and connect to Plasma Cloud.
If you attempt to disable the Management VLAN on the uplink port, a warning message will appear, requiring explicit confirmation. You will have the following options:
- Cancel – Closes popup and doesn't save any VLAN modifications.
- Auto-Correct – Saves all VLAN setting changes on non-uplink ports, and automatically assigns the Management VLAN as default VLAN to the uplink port. If the uplink port previously had an allowed Management VLAN that was later removed, the Management VLAN is reassigned as the default VLAN.
- Save – Saves all VLAN settings, including the removal of the Management VLAN from the uplink port.
If a Switch has no known uplink port, and you remove the Management VLAN from all ports and press save, another warning message will appear:
- Cancel – Closes popup and doesn't save any VLAN modifications.
- Save – Saves the removal of the Management VLAN from all ports.
Carefully review your settings to avoid losing cloud connectivity and requiring a factory reset to restore access.
