How to configure a VLAN on a port?

Plasma Cloud allows you to assign one default VLAN and/or up to several allowed VLANs to each individual Switch port (to learn more about default and allowed VLANs, please check out this article).

Plasma Cloud Switches are pre-configured with the management VLAN as default VLAN on all ports to provide a plug & play experience. Thus, untagged traffic can go in and out of every port. It ensures that your Switches and connected devices can successfully connect to the Internet and to the Plasma Cloud console out of the box.

To configure a VLAN on a Switch port, you need to:

1. Log into the Plasma Cloud console;
2. Select the Organisation and Network containing your Switch of interest from the top right menu;
3. Navigate to Switches in the main menu on the left;
4. Click on the Switch you wish to configure in the Switch table;
5. On the Switch Details page, scroll down to the switch graphic and select the VLAN Settings tab;

6. Select the VLAN you wish to assign from the drop-down menu, or create a new VLAN using the '+' button;  
7. Select the state you wish to apply to this VLAN by clicking on either the Default VLAN (blue) or Allowed VLAN (pink) radio button;
8. Select the ports you want to assign this VLAN to. Either click on individual ports in the Switch graphic or select/deselect all ports using the provided buttons. The selected ports will then become either blue or pink, depending on the VLAN state you selected in the previous step.

You may repeat steps 6. - 8. as many times as needed.

9. Once you have configured all ports according to your needs, click on the Save button.

You can use the VLAN settings page to get an overview of VLANs assigned to your Switch ports. Simply select a VLAN from the drop-down menu to highlight those ports using this particular VLAN. Pink color represents allowed VLANs and blue color stands for default VLAN.
