The SSID settings page allows you to configure how your wireless network behaves and how clients connect to it. Below is an explanation of each available option.
To go to a SSID settings page, you need to:
- Log into the Plasma Cloud console.
- Select the Organisation and Network containing the SSID from the top right menu.
- In the main menu on the left, navigate to Settings > SSIDs > SSID name. This will take you to the SSID settings page.
General Details
"Enabled" toggle: allows to turn the SSID on or off. Only enabled SSIDs are broadcast by WiFi Access Points.
Name: contains the SSID name. This is the name clients will see when connecting to the WiFi network (unless a name override is configured in the Band section).
"Hide SSID" toggle: When enabled, this SSID will not appear in standard WiFi scans, making it less visible to new clients.
Authentication
Contains WPA encryption settings. Learn more about WPA encryption standards here.
Captive Portal
Allows to enable a local or remote splash page to present terms of use, login prompts, or branding before granting Internet access. Learn how to configure splash pages on your SSID here.
DNS
Local or external DNS options can be configured:
Plasma Cloud DNS (default), or
External DNS services (available via the Marketplace). Learn how to configure a DNS service here.
WAN Mode
Determines how traffic is handled:
Bridge mode: Devices receive IP addresses from your existing LAN. Learn more here.
Routing mode: The Access Point provides its own IP addresses. Learn more here.
Client Throttling
Throughput available to each client can be limited. Learn more about client throttling here.
WiFi Scheduling
SSID can be enabled and disabled automatically according to a weekly schedule (for example, disable WiFi outside business hours). Learn more about WiFi schedules here.
Client Isolation
When enabled, Client isolation prevents devices connected to the same SSID from communicating with each other for improved security. Learn how to configure client isolation here.
Band
Frequency bands on which this SSID will broadcast can be enabled and disabled. Available options (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, 6 GHz) depend on the Access Point capabilities present in the network.
The "broadcast name override" field allows to configure SSID names for each frequency band (i.e. SSID-name-2.4GHz, SSID-name-5GHz, etc.).
Certain firmware versions unlock specific features in the Console. If a section seems to be missing in your SSID settings, please check your firmware version and refer to our release notes. |
