How do these WiFi standards help wireless clients?
All these standards automatically take different measures to optimize client roaming on your Plasma Cloud network.
802.11r
The 802.11r standard implements a feature called Fast Basic Service Set Transition (FT). It allows clients to authenticate faster when changing connection between APs broadcasting the same SSID. This reduces roaming time when the SSID is WPA encrypted.

802.11k
Thanks to the 802.11k standard, clients can search faster for nearby APs and thus reduce the roaming time. This is done by comparing certain information provided by WiFi APs, such as the number of connected clients, signal strength and neighboring APs. Thanks to this data, clients can quickly assess their best roaming target.

802.11v
The 802.11v standard enhances overall management of wireless networks by providing information about network topology and radio frequency environment to WiFi clients. By doing so, it allows clients to be aware of their surroundings, thus facilitating roaming. Other 802.11v features also help clients to improve battery life by permitting them to stay idle longer.
