A new Access Point added to the Plasma Cloud console will need a connection to the Internet to receive its network configuration from the cloud. Typically, this is done by wiring the Access Point to your router using an Ethernet cable - just plug the cable directly into the router, a connected Switch or an Ethernet wall plug and it will setup automatically.
However, in some circumstances the Access Point may need to be installed in a location without any available Ethernet connection. If so, the Access Point will still be able to retrieve its network configuration via Wireless Mesh from other nearby mesh Access Points, even if all of them have Wireless Mesh disabled.
This procedure will be triggered when the following conditions are met:
- You have already created an account on the Plasma Cloud console;
- You have a network with at least one Access Point in it;
- You have added the new mesh Access Point to your network with Wireless Mesh disabled; and
- The device is turned on.
Nearby Access Points in the network will then detect that there is a new Access Point in need of a Wireless Mesh connection. Once they do, they will enter "Mesh Recovery Mode" and automatically enable Wireless Mesh to allow the newly added Access Point to connect and receive its configuration through the cloud. The user will be informed through a flag in the UI that Wireless Mesh has been enabled in these Access Points.
